Germany - Phase 2: Rostow and Sevastopol - 18 Jun to 17 Jul 1940

18 Jun 1940: Now is the time for a non-aggression pact with Bulgaria. We could even ask for military access but I'll pass on that one.
The Russian front from north to south.
19 Jun 1940: Rommel's Army Südost continues its thrust from northern Ukraine.
20 Jun 1940: We are gradually running out of Fuel. 3.7 months is not a long time for an campaign of this magnitude.
23 Jun 1940: Now that the pocket has been eliminated 7th Army (Romanian) and others can press forward.
24 Jun 1940: The Soviets have defeated Estonia which will free up more divisions against us but they are a long way from our offensive in the south.
28 Jun 1940: The 1940 Submarine Hull has been researched but we won't start building it until after this war.
28 Jun 1940: We attack with elements from 4 Armies to capture Crimea and eastern Ukraine.
I select to research the 1940 Heavy Ship Hull.
A more detailed view of the southern end of the front shows minimal Soviet forces block our advance.
02 Jul 1940: We launch an offensive in the centre to capture Gomel and hopefully prevent the Soviets from transferring forces south.
05 Jul 1940: We have captured Sevastopol and Spain has joined the Latin Entente. Good news from Crimea but I'm not sure about the news from Spain.
Lack of Garrison Support can cause a lot of problems.
08 Jul 1940: I commit 1st Army from our Theatre Reserves to force the the thrust in the Russian centre.
10 Jul 1940: We maintain the pressure in the centre and are approaching Kharkov and Belgorod.
11 Jul 1940: We appear to have sunk a Soviet submarine. Well done, guys.
14 Jul 1940: We have captured Belgorod and an airbase further south.
15 Jul 1940: The Air Doctrine Hunt and Destroy has been researched. We are also attacking north of Belgorod.
I select to research Concentrated Industry III next.
None of those projects will help the current conflict but will be of great value later.
16 Jul 1940: We are at the gates of Rostow which will conclude Phase 2.
17 Jul 1940: Rostow has been captured and we prepare to advance further. General von Weichs will be unavailable for a while.
We agree to a non-aggression pact with the British Raj but ignore Estonia's request.
The Soviets are now 32% towards capitulation and our casualties are beginning to worry me.
We've achieved our objectives and are now ready for the next phase.
