Germany - Unternehmen Barbarossa (I) - 02 May to 16 May 1941
02 May 1941: The initial plans to advance into Russia. Note that 1. and 2. Panzerarmeen haven't been commited yet. I'm letting the Infantry Armies demolish the Russian defences.
I give 1. U-Boots Flottille the order to patrol in the Lower and Upper Baltic Sea.Küstenfliegergruppe 1 is assigned to Anti-Ship duties in the Lower Baltic Sea while a Stuka Wing is doing the same in the Upper Baltic.
I increase the Conscripton Law to Service by Requiement.
I select the Focus Long-Range Escorts.
04 May 1941: My attacks in the North are doing well. I hope to capture Pskov soon - an import Rail Jumction.
Further south 2nd Army is looking very promising with imminent breakthroughs. 1. Panzerarmee is now participating but has not yet been activated.
In 4th Army's sector Russian forces north of Salihorsk have been pushed back.
Finally in 3rd Army's sector a breakthrough east of Vinnytsia is about to happen.
07 May 1941: We agree to a non-aggression psct wih Qing China.
We don't have Air Superiority in the Northen Front so I move 120 Fw 190 A's from Jagdgeschwader 134 forward from Westfalen to Vidzeme.
In 3rd Army's sector the Russian defences have been penetrated along the whole frontline.
Units from Guderian's 1. Panzerarmee are involved and they will be soon unleashed to capture Kiev.
In 4th Army's sector we are advancing towards the major Rail Junction at Zhytomyr.
I order 5th Army to advance through 4th Army's lines to capture Odessa and Sevastopol. 3rd Army is slowly nearing Kiev.
08 May 1941: This may look confusing but it isn't. We already have one group of Russian divisions encircled around Minsk and a second is being formed just to the east. There will be no escape for these Russians.
10 May 1941: Pskov and Luga have been captured and 3. Panzerarmee is advancing on its main objective Leningrad.
11 May 1941: Kiev has fallen - the first major city after only 9 days.
Zhytomyr has also fallen and in front of 4th Army SW of Kiev there are no defenders.
14 May 1941: In the Upper Baltic Sea 100 Russian aircraft engage our U-Boots but sink none. (This is the only Naval action in the whole campaign.)
Infrastructure has been damaged so I move it to the top of the Construction schedule to be repaired..
The battles near Leningrad- We need to cross that river and attack the city from the east.
15 May 1941: Now I really am in trouble.
16 May 1941: The 18. Panzer-Division has been deployed and I place it in training.
I select the Air Doctrine Hunt and Destroy which increases Air Support missions by 20%.
Two wks into the campaign and the Wehrmacht is performing well.
