Germany - Spanish Civil War - 29 Jul to 27 Dec 1937
29 Jul 1937: The aircraft are already being transferred to Nationalist Spain. Still no divisions being trained for the Wehrmacht!
26 Aug 1937: Rommel is finally at the frontline and is fighting east of Salamanca. We are under attack from the southeast but are defending easily.02 Sep 1937: The battle is now almost over and we shall prevail.
04 Sep 1937: We broke through but a new faction - Carlist - has joined the fray.
They are declaring war on everybody....
...with total chaos along our front.
Gaps in the line against the Carlists have to be filled with troops from our section of the front.
Here you can see Spanish troops leaving while I am hoping to extricate my Panzerkops from this potentially dangerous situation.
07 Sep 1937: Who are these Carlists? They appear to broken away from the Aragon guys.
15 Sep 1937: Not good news. Get well Erwin!
16 Sep 1937: I intend fighting the Carlists so I need to free myself from this Nationalist mess.
20 Oct 1937: Our attack towards Burgos succeeded but we are bogged down again. This mountainous terrain isn't ideal for Panzers.
21 Oct 1937: In addition we are attacking across a river.
25 Oct 1937: Little change at the front.
02 Nov 1937: Now the weather is slowly deteriorating. Sitzkrieg!
15 Nov 1937: Hope in sight. Only 10 days!
19 Nov 1937: Troops on both sides are spread thin on the main front against Spain. The hole we punched in the line is still there!
28 Nov 1937: A change in the plan. We are attacking northwestwards and it's looking promising.
14 Dec 1937: The plan worked and 4 Carlist divisions were destroyed. Attacking eastwards in the direction of Zaragossa.
23 Dec 1937: A second Carlist division is now defending against my armour slowing my attack.
27 Dec 1937: The Carlists have capitulated and Republican Spain gets all the territory and captured equipment.
Next post we are back to the Home Front!
